A
lessandra Sensini, from Albaria Sailing Club Italy, was born in Grosseto the 26th of
Genuary in 1970. She is a qualified accountant. Swimming has been her first sport from
1976. From 1979 to 1984 she played basket in the 'Libertas' team, during these years she
took part in cross country races representing either her school or the company
"Atletica femminile casa dello sport". In 1982 Alessandra started practising
windsurf. Her qualities were shown for the first time in 1983 when she arrived second at
the national "Giochi della gioventù". In 1985 she won her first Italian Junior
Ws Championship and from that year she won each Italian junior Championship. In the same
year she took part in the national team with the convocation to the women's World
Championship IYRU. In 1986 she competed for the 'Centro Surf Grosseto'. Her first
appearance in the international field was in 1987 arriving third at the Junior World
Championship in Australia. 1988 was the year in which she gave the most excellent results
in the international field: second together with her team at the World Championship in
Palermo, first at the World Cup, second at the European Mistral Championship and third at
the Junior World Championship. In 1989 she competed for Albaria Sailing Club, winning both
the Italian Funboard circuit and the World Mistral Championship in Texas. In 1992 she took
part in Barcellona Olympics together with the italian surfer Riccardo
Giordano, being on the verge of the silver medal because of two advanced starts in the
last two trials. Alessandra has got success in the world funboard winning the world title
in 1994. Thanks to her, the best italian surfer of all the times, for the first time Italy
won the funboards World Cup. In 1995 she competed for Atlanta Olympics of 1996 winning the
bronze medal in the Funboard World Cup.
