RS:X Youth Championship 2008 Mondello - 26 luglio - 2 Agosto 2008
LAURA LINARES AND LIRAN MACHLEV became the RS:X under 19 European Champions. MANFREDI MISURACA FOURTH.

Five races were carried out this week and Laura Linares from Marsala and Liran Machlev from Tel Aviv both became the RS:X under 19 European Champions. All 90 participating athletes had a tough week with only a light breeze of around 5-6 knots to take them round the race circuit, today two races were about to start but were then cancelled due to no wind. In a sailing sport such as this anything can happen and so the five races that were carried out were enough to assign the titles to the winners.

A great success for those who took the titles after such a difficult and demanding week. Proof that these athletes have the qualities to carry on in the future this sport for the olympics after Beijing. In the boy's group after Machlev the silver medal went to the British boy Alistair Masters, followed by another Isralian Roy Asulin.

A dream come true for the fifteen year old Manfredi Misuraca from Italy who came in at fourth place. If only the wind had kept up who knows how it would have ended. In the girl's group Laura Linares came in at first place, this could be her last victory in this age group as she is about pass into the "older girl's" group, going on directly to compete for a place in the next Olympics. Windsurf could have already found its next queen after Sensini's success. Second place in the girl's group went to an Israeli girl: Lior Shimoni, and third place to the French girl Sybille Bosch, her sister Leonore came in behind her at fourth place. In the past few years Israel has taken part in many events and has always had well prepared athletes. Obviously the success in Athens in 2004 made by Gal Friedman has brushed off on the other Isralian athletes in the red sea.
